Patricia Norris, founding partner of Earhart Consulting
The engineering industry has been and continues to be a heavily male-dominated one. In an era that is starting to shift its focus increasingly towards matters concerning the equality of all people, the issue of workplace gender imbalances has received its fair amount of pressure to reform. The STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) faculties, however, are proving particularly stubborn in this regard. Recent data shows that women make up only 25% of STEM talent globally. Professional women engineers in South Africa are even more scarce, totaling just 4%. The inclusion of women in these industries is vital to ensuring their efficiency and productivity. Creating diversity in gender helps companies take advantage of untapped potential and inspires younger female generations to aspire to life goals which include involvement in these spheres, as well.
Patricia Norris, founding partner of Earhart Consulting is also the founder and CEO of Commuter Transport Engineering (CTE), one of the first black female-headed engineering firms in South Africa, operating in the rail industry. It is her personal intention, as well as that of the firms she leads, to empower women in this industry by providing the opportunities necessary for its attainment. Earhart Consulting, brain child of Patricia Norris, is currently engaged with four woman-owned enterprises. These companies will benefit from engagement in the four pillars of Earhart Consulting’s services; Performance Coaching, Financial Advisory, Business Services and Stakeholder Returns.
